Local Runners Perform Well

Nine o’clock Sunday morning, August 10, was an absolutely beautiful time for the 23rd Annual Run for the Roses 5k Race at Grafton Lakes State Park. For a change the sky was clear. The temperature was in the low 60s, and there was little, if any, humidity. Walkers covered the 2.5 mile Shaver Pond Trail before the race and after the 5k, youngsters, many accompanied by a parent, participated in the 1 mile Fun Run. It was a great family day. The Race included many parent/child or sibling combinations.
First across the finish line was Joel Frost-Tift of Averill Park, a full two minutes ahead of his nearest competitor. First woman across the line was Chelsea Trant of Niskayuna. One hundred sixty-four runners participated. Monies from the Walk, Run and Fun Run benefit the Grafton Community Library and the Courtney Carelli Foundation for Literacy.
Olivia Gundrum came in second in the female 1 to 14 age group. Connor Hoyt was the first male in the 1 to 14 group. In the 15 to 19 female group Megan Derby was first and Dan Bulson and Philip Hartshorn were first and second for the males. Theresa Sime was second in the 20 to 29 female age group and Brett Thomas was third in the male group. Anne Strock and Christine Rojas were first and second in the 40 to 49 female group and Douglas Swank was third in the male group. Rick Hartshorn was third in the male 50 to 59 group and Elizabeth Miller was first in the female 60 to 69 age group.
