Draft Land Use Law Ready For Review

October 31, 2008 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

Members of the Town of Hoosick Zoning Commission met at 8:30 Wednesday morning, October 29, to compile the information they had gathered at meetings held at Buskirk, North Hoosick, Hoosick and West Hoosick on the first draft of a Land Use Law. “The meetings were great,” said Commission Member Marianne Zwicklbauer. They brought people to their own areas of the Town to talk about their feelings on the plan, one on one. They were mapping out their own areas and what was important in their particular area. “I was very happy to know people actually went through the draft cover to cover and made comments,” said Zwicklbauer. “Some people had specific opinions that were very constructive. Others who had previously opposed such a plan realized we have come to the point where we have to have something in place.” Town Supervisor Marilyn Douglas said this is a local plan, a draft.  Besides the Commission, input was received from the Building Inspector, the Highway Superintendent, the Planning Board and the Town Board. The draft was also guided by the Town’s Comprehensive Plan. Zwicklbauer, Douglas, Linda von der Heide, Principal Planner with Rensselaer County Economic Development, and Wally Sheffer, Sr. worked until three in the afternoon categorizing the public comments.

The next working meeting of the Commission will be Monday, November 3, at the Town Hall at 7 pm. Supervisor Douglas said this is a working session. It is open to the public but not for comment.
