The Hoosick Falls Police Explorer Post 5 is looking to increase the size of the Post with new members. Any young person, age 14 to 21, interested in a future career in law enforcement should attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, October 28, from 7 to 9 pm at the North Hoosick Fire Department on Route 22. At this meeting they will learn what they can expect from the program and ask any questions they may have.
Explorers have been schooled in the Penal and Traffic Laws, been taught actual police tactics for building search, traffic stops, major crimes response, arrest techniques and firearms. They have gone on field trips to the New York State Police Lab, Troy Police Dept. and the City Court, Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department and the Jail. They have been taken on patrol with the Police River Unit, fired pistols and rifles at a local range and assisted Hoosick Falls Police with special events. There are many more activities and programs that will be discussed at the meeting.
So, if you are interested in law enforcement and meet the requirements listed, come to the meeting next week! The requirements are:
• male or female, 14-21 years old, and completed the eighth grade;
• maintain a C average in school;
• attend 70% of bi-monthly meetings;
• permission and full support from parents;
• adhere to behavior standards;
