It’s A Family Affair

October 31, 2008 By eastwickpress

Avid sports fan Paul Sykes of Stephentown was especially interested in following Berlin’s varsity soccer team this past season. Aside from the fact that the team played excellent ball with a lot of heart, it turns out Paul has both a grandson and a great-grandson on this team!

Paul’s grandson, Matt Tanner, #17, played mostly in the wing position, ending the season with two goals and three assists. The son of Paul’s daughter Eileen Roder, he will graduate next June and plans to attend Hudson Valley Community College next year.

Aaron Gunlach, #14, a sophomore, is Paul’s great-grandson, the son of Paul’s granddaughter Paula. He played midfield defense but missed the last two games due to a knee injury. He’ll be back on Berlin’s varsity team next year.
