West Hoosick – Pauline May Swart, 93, died Monday, October 27, 2008, at her residence on Groveside Road. She resided there with her niece and her husband, Susan and Raymond Morin. Pauline was the wife of the late Archie Swart.
Born in Groveside, NY, on October 26, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Ellsworth and Sadie Helen (Lebarron) Brownell. Pauline attended grade school in Groveside and was a dedicated homemaker. In her earlier married years she lived in Burnt Hills, NY. While there, she was involved in Missions with White Cross work in the Baptist and Methodist churches.
Pauline lived a simple life in obedience to Biblical principles and was instrumental in keeping family and neighbor ties current and strong. She held a deep love for her sisters and brothers and their children.
After moving to West Hoosick, NY, she attended the West Hoosick Baptist Church and belonged to the Gleaners. This community became a vital part of her social life. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain. She spent many hours crocheting lovely doilies and pillow case lace and tatting bookmarks. With the help of dear friends and neighbors, Jim and June Moore, Pauline was able to keep her own apartment until her 92nd year when she moved to live with Susan and Ray on the part of the Brownell family farm where she was born and grew up. Although change was hard for Pauline, she went through many in her life, and she would state a verse from Philippians, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Survivors other than Susan and Ray include her sisters, Irene Greene and husband Arlie of Center Berlin, NY, and Jessie Stuart and husband Elmer of Stephentown, NY, brothers, Paul Clark Brownell and wife Edna of Cambridge, NY, and Wesley Brownell and wife Helen of West Hoosick. Pauline is pre-deceased by a brother, Gordon Brownell.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 2, at 3 pm from the West Hoosick Baptist Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Hoosick Fire Department through the funeral home.
