Vevia M. Woodard

Hoosick Falls – Vevia M. Woodard, 77, died Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT, after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Vevia was married to her loving husband Calvin Bryson Sr. for forty-seven years.

 

Born in Hoosick Falls on July 12, 1931, Vevia was the daughter of the late Floyd and Emily (Maxon) Woodard. She graduated from Hoosick Falls High School. Vevia worked at several area factories including Nancy Shoe, Barclay’s and the Undergarment before becoming a full time homemaker. She was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Hoosick Falls. Vevia enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting and taking care of children.

Survivors other than her husband Calvin include her children, Arlene Barber and Harvey Wilson, Ruth Schneider Sevianey and Joe, Michael Durkin and Shirley, Reta Crandall and Alex, Russell Bryson and Valerie, Tina Bain and Phillip and Calvin Bryson Jr. and Kaitlyn Petitt, and a sister, Janet Brenenstuhl and Gordon. She was the proud grandmother to seventeen grandchildren and great-grandmother to twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Vevia is pre-deceased by her grandchildren, Calvin John Schneider and Sally Ann Schneider.

Funeral services were Saturday, October 11, at 10 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial followed the service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home.

Vevia was compassionate about all components of life, whether it be people, animals or plants. She touched many lives and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
