A chill wind swept through Wood Park at 11 am on November 11 as members of the Hoosick American Legion, politicians and about 30 citizens recognized the sacrifices of our veterans.
Legion Commander Walter Zwinge remembered the sacrifices of all veterans, particularly the 5,000 killed and the 40,000 wounded in Iraq. With a lump in his throat he noted the loss of dedicated Legionnaire Fred Brenenstuhl, who served the Legion for 62 years. A prayer was read by Legionnaire Nick Ruggiero.
Also saluting the veterans were members of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary, Rensselaer County Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote and Hoosick Town Supervisor Marilyn Douglas. A salute was fired by the Honor Guard and Rennselaer County District Attorney Rich McNally played taps. Benediction was given by Rev. Mike Benoit.
