Get Fired Up Join In The Fire Fighter Parade

November 21, 2008 By eastwickpress

Usher in the holiday season on Friday, December 5, as Hoosick Falls pays tribute to area fire departments with a lighted holiday parade and tree lighting ceremony. The Village of Hoosick Falls and the Youth Impact Team, a part of Hoosick Area Partnership for Parents & Youth (HAPPY), are organizing this event.

Fire Engine Parade

Activities begin at 6 pm with a parade of fire engines decked out for the season. The parade will line up around Wood Park. Exiting the Park onto Wilder Avenue, the parade will turn right onto Main Street, left onto John Street and left onto Church Street. It will proceed along Church Street to the intersection with Main Street and then on Main Street back to Wood Park. Please come out and cheer on our volunteer fire fighters.

Local organizations, churches, families, groups and individuals are invited to participate with a lighted float of their own. Please call 518-686-9050 and leave a message for Aelish Nealon if you intend to be part of the line-up. Participants must be in place around the park by 5:45 pm to step off promptly at 6 pm.

Santa And Tree

Lighting

Arriving with the parade will be the man of the season, Santa Claus himself, so be sure to bring the kids!

At the Municipal Building refreshments will be offered and Santa will visit with each of the children and hear holiday wishes. Supplies to create ornaments for the fire fighter-themed Christmas tree in Wood Park will be available in the Village Board Room for anyone who wants to use them.

The tree lighting, led by Santa and Mayor Laura Reynolds, will take place in Wood Park at 7 pm. Everyone is invited to witness this symbolic kick-off to the holiday season. Upsy Daisy Florist is providing the park decorations.

Galleries Open

Galleries and shops on John Street have agreed to extend their hours on December 5 to allow parade and tree lighting participants a chance to make some holiday purchases. Upsy Daisy Florist will have a special open house from 6 to 8 pm. Local eateries will also be open for all to enjoy before, during and after the parade and tree lighting.

Watch for a special firefighter-themed holiday surprise in several storefronts throughout the Village. Can you spot all eight of them?
