Last month the employees of the Hoosick Falls Clerk’s Office, Highway Department, Water Department, Police Department and Dispatchers either brought in items or donated money to purchase more items and to pay for shipping to a K9 Unit deployed in Iraq. Last week, the package containing snacks, candy, personal hygiene, batteries, stuffed animals and dog toys was shipped to Iraq. The stuffed animals are for the troops to give out to Iraqi children.
A Florida man started the program. He met a soldier who was going to Iraq who was also a K9 handler, and they began talking about the many things the soldiers and their four legged partners needed. The program has grown by leaps and bounds.
The soldiers have expressed their thanks to everyone who has contributed to making their sacrifice just a bit easier. If you would like to get involved in this rewarding program, please visit the website www.operationfurrysoldiers.org. There are stories from the soldiers, contact information to ask questions and a list of items that can be sent to the soldiers and their dogs. You can send a package personally or get a group from work or social organization to send a large box of items.
