Kathleen E. Thurber

Hoosick Falls – Kathleen E. “Kay” Thurber, 85, of Abbott Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, died on Saturday, November 1, 2008, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT, after being stricken at home.

 

Born in Cohoes, NY, on October 12, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Harriet Paradise Moon. She was the loving wife of William E. “Chick” Thurber, whom she married in the Immaculate Conception Church rectory in Hoosick Falls on April 17, 1949.

A 1940 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and valedictorian of her class, Kay worked for many years at Holman Manufacturing where she retired as office manager. She served the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center as a gray lady for many years. She and her husband spent one month in Myrtle Beach for many years. She loved to read and visit with friends, and she enjoyed her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Chick, her children, Lee Ann and husband Al Wooddell of Cambridge, NY, William J. and wife Candy Thurber of Camden, SC, James P. and wife Karen Thurber of Lafayette, CO, and John P. and wife Darlene Thurber of Burnt Hills, NY, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by Gladys, Eleanor, Dot and Evelyn.

Funeral services were on Wednesday, November 5, at 8:45 am in the Robson-Reinfurt Funeral Home, 72 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, and at 9:30 in the Immaculate Conception Church where Rev. James Clark, pastor, celebrated a Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends were invited to the funeral home for visitation on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosick Falls Little League in care of the funeral home in loving memory of Kay Thurber.
