Letter To The Editor – Paving On Babcock Lake Road

November 28, 2008 By eastwickpress

Letter to editor,

After many months, Babcock Lake Road is paved, and it is great to see our tax dollars put to good use to improve our local roads. Thank you to the Town for accomplishing this and improving our daily travels. It is nice to pull out of the driveway onto this pavement.

I must ask though if the Town has inspected the completed road. The road surface is already beginning to come up in spots. There are small potholes beginning to appear, and there are several uneven spots that will deteriorate rapidly when the plows begin to roll. Please have the Town inspect the road and have the necessary corrections made under whatever contract or guarantees they have in place before too much time elapses.

One last issue is – I have a small driveway that I would like to have paved, and if there was leftover pavement material, I feel there should have been a lottery so a driveway at random could have benefited from the excess pavement material. If this is not the case, then I think the leftover pavement material should have been utilized to adequately pave Babcock Lake Road to correct the existing deficiencies. Instead the business D&L Excavating at 673 Babcock Lake Road benefited from the paving and was allowed to have free pavement approx. 10’ x 40’ (the approximate size of my driveway) paved in front of that business garage, courtesy of the local taxpayers. This needs to be investigated – why this was allowed to happen. If this service was performed inappropriately, this business and its owner should be charged for this pavement and the money returned to the Town.
