Mary P. Cook

Hoosick Falls – Mary P. Cook, 77, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT. She formerly resided on Third Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, and was the wife of the late Richard Cook.

Born on September 3, 1931, in Hoosick Falls, Mary was the daughter of the late John A. and Mary (Hyland) Mahar. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. She was employed at Oak Riverview in Hoosick Falls in quality control. Prior to that she owned and operated a beauty shop in Hoosick Falls for many years. Mary was an avid bowler and a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include her sister, Pat Carknard of Hoosick Falls, and many nieces and nephews. Mary is pre-deceased by a sister, Catherine “Didi” Brownell, and a brother, John A. “Coogie” Mahar, a stepfather, Stephen Labanowski, and stepbrother, Sylvester Labanowski.

Funeral services were Saturday, December 13, at 11:15 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 12 pm from the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 am until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to either EC (Ed Carknard) Youth Trust Fund or the Michael Hackett Scholarship Fund of St. Mary’s Academy through the funeral home.
