The Fifth Annual Bowl for Hoosick Kids, sponsored by Saint Gobain and W.C.W., Inc., is set for Saturday, January 3, at the Barbecue Recreation lanes in Hoosick Falls. This year’s event will benefit MentorWorks, a new program to help youth in the Hoosick Falls community develop their talents and skills through one-on-one partnerships with caring adults. Proceeds will be used to provide local matching funds needed to fully capture the Department of Education grant awarded to this program, which is administered by the Hoosick Area Partnership for Parents & Youth (HAPPY).
Several bowling teams have been assembled and bowlers are asking community members, friends and family to support their efforts through pledges. Each bowling team needs to raise at least $200 for the cause. Please consider making a donation if approached by a bowler. Donations can also be sent directly to MentorWorks, c/o HAPPY, PO Box 492, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Please make checks payable to HAPPY.
If you would like to bowl but are not part of a team, please contact Aelish Nealon for a pledge sheet or arrive on the day of the event with your $40 entry fee. Everyone is welcome to be part of this worthwhile and fun event. There will be two waves of bowlers; one at 1:30 pm and one at 3 pm. There is room for additional teams as well. Call Aelish for details.
Non-bowlers can come and support the event. Several great prizes will be raffled off during each wave, and our generous host, Barbecue Recreation, will have snacks available for sale. Bowl for Hoosick Kids T-shirts will also be available for purchase while supplies last.
To help make this event a success, Barbecue Recreation has agreed to donate the bowling time, and the two primary sponsors, Saint Gobain and W.C.W., Inc. have made substantial contributions. Strike, Spare and Lane sponsorships are still available. HAPPY is a 501(c)(3) organization and sponsorships paid by December 31 are fully tax deductible for 2008. Please call Aelish Nealon at 686-9050 if you would like additional information on being a sponsor.
