Need a leg up for college? Upward Bound at Southern Vermont College, a federally funded program through the Department of Education, is currently seeking applications from eligible high school students in grades nine, ten and eleven. The Upward Bound program helps students to develop the skills, motivation and self-confidence necessary for success in high school and college.
Students attending one of the target schools served by Upward Bound are invited to apply. These schools are Arlington Memorial High School, Berlin High School, Cambridge High School, Hoosick Falls Central School, Mount Anthony Union High School, Salem High School and Mount Greylock High School in Massachusetts.
Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities to participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families; high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree and low-income, first generation military veterans who are preparing to enter post secondary education. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post secondary education.
