William J. Greenwood Jr.

Hoosick Falls – William J. Bill “Bud” Greenwood Jr., 82, died Friday, December 5, 2008, at his residence after a long illness surrounded by his loving family. He resided on Rensselaer Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, with his wife of fifty-three years, Eleanor (Couch) Greenwood.

Born on October 24, 1926, in Hoosick Falls, Bill was the son of the late William J. and Louise (Boylan) Greenwood. He attended St. Mary’s Academy until being called to serve his country during WW II in the Navy. Bill received his high school diploma in 2001 when the Government recognized all who served from Rensselaer County. He was employed at the Wood Flong Corporation and retired from Oak Industries, both in Hoosick Falls. Bill was a member and served on the Board of Directors of the Pioneer Fish and Game Club.

In the past years Bill was involved with the Hoosick Falls Little League, the St. Stanislaw Society and the Hoosick Falls Fire Department, where he was a past member and dispatcher. He was also involved with Village politics serving as a Village Trustee and Deputy Mayor for many years. Bill was also a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. He was very devoted to his family.

Survivors other than his wife Eleanor include six children, Carol Greenwood and Jerri Saari of Salem, NY, Doug Greenwood and wife Elizabeth of Jacksonville, FL, Barb Wagner and husband Todd, Sharon Kipp and husband Andy, Linda O’Dell and husband Rock and John Greenwood and wife Kelly, all of Hoosick Falls, ten grandchildren, Matthew Saari, Spencer and Genevieve Greenwood, Lindsay and Andrea Wagner, Keeley Kipp, Rocky and Laura O’Dell and Madison and McKenna Greenwood, and one great-grandchild, Chloe O’Dell. Bill is also survived by three sisters, Mary Fitzpatrick and Rita Greenwood both of Hoosick Falls, and Kathy Hauser of Shaftsbury, VT, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by three sisters, Agnes “Gee” Marcoux, Helen McMillian and Lillian “Diddy” Greenwood, and a brother, Ron Greenwood.

Funeral services were Tuesday, December 9, at 9:15 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial followed the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Pioneer Fish & Game Club or the Rensselaer County Community Hospice through the funeral home.
