Celebrate the outdoors this season by attending the annual Yule Log Event at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center, 475 Dyken Pond Road, Cropseyville, on Sunday, December 14. Beginning at 1 pm, there will a search for the hidden yule log. The traditional yule log was cut from either an oak or birch tree and hidden for guests and friends to find. Once found, the yule log will be carried back to start an outdoor campfire. Guests can then enjoy this informal day at the fire or make holiday crafts for the season. Greens will be available to make boughs or swags for your door or make a holiday ornament to bring home. There will also be a children’s scavenger hunt as well. People of all ages are encouraged to come out, and don’t forget to bring your sleds! Hot chocolate and light snacks will be provided; feel free to bring your own snacks as well.
Dyken Pond Center is a Rensselaer County Park open daily during daylight hours for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing. Contact the Center at 658-2055 for a complete schedule of our winter events and for up-to-date road and snow conditions.
