Sunday, Dec 1, 1850: Today I and my whole family went to the Baptist Church to the funeral of Wm. Bliss Maxon’s wife, a stranger from Berlin preached, he is a Sabetarian. I and my wife and John F. rode in my two wheel carriage and Geo P. and his two sisters rode in one horse wagon, the preacher’s name Hally Baker.
Monday: Today Geo P. plowed sward on my Rodgers farm. I drove a spell and then returned home and finished banking up the house, and then I filled up a ditch in the young orchard.
Wednesday: Today Mr. Tanner and Hull came and skinned three hogs for me and paid one dollar and 69 cents for the hides at three cents per pound. This evening we partly cut up the pork.
Monday: Today I took my one horse wagon and my wife with me and we carried our sausage meat to Russel Palmer’s and he helped us make our sausages 87 pounds and he charged me one dol and fifty cents and carried the meat for the widow Eliza and the widow Freelove Wylie, they had 17 pounds each.
Wednesday: some snow storm.
Thursday: I and Geo P. got a chestnut log off the hill and Geo P. went to the saw mill with the log and fetched home a load black oak one and a half inch plank.
Friday: I stopped up the celler door to keep from freezing. Today Mr. Murray from Pittsfield came and bargained for my wool at 44 cts per pound and I do agree to deliver to Pittsfield. Daniel Gardner was with Mr. Murray and agreed to fulfil said Murray contract if said Murray failed.
Saturday: Today Geo P. took a letter out of R. A. Brown’s post office for John F. from Cincinnati, and a letter for Sarah O. from her cousin Caroline Holcomb.
Monday: Today Geo P. took my horse and wagon and carried my wool and his to Pittsfield, I had contracted the wool on Friday last to James J. Murray. I had 84 fleeces and the weight 267 pounds at 44 cents per and got 117 dol and 66 cents, and Geo P. had 17 fleeces at 44 cts per 23 dol 80 cents and on the way home Geo P. called on Pool HIll and got a top hog of Jabe Babcock for a few weeks.
