Hoosick Grange met on December 10. It was the annual Christmas Party, with invited guests. The tables were all decorated for the party. There were all kinds of delicious food. After eating, the Lecturer welcomed everyone. She started the program by telling about December 6 – Saint Nick Day, (Nikelause). In Germany it was a religious holiday. Children would hang their stockings. The Lecturer told a story about a family during the depression. They lived in America, which was a lot different than living in Germany, and how their Christmas changed. The Lecturer read a poem. “The Christmas Stocking.” They sang Christmas songs and then had a skit, titled Beautiful But Dumb. We had a reading, Pink Snow for Christmas, and a game, A Penny For Your Thoughts. This was a challenge – to tell everything that was on different coins. There were prizes. We had several more skits with David Cornell, Carleton Philpott and David Schmidt taking part. The Lecturer had another poem, “Are These Signs of Age?” They sang “Away In The Manger” and then “Silent Night” when the manger scene was ready. Iva Durkee was Mary and David Schmidt was Joseph. The Lecturer had a Pi¢ata – a Spanish custom. They had lots of fun breaking it with candy spilling on the floor. They had a grab bag to finish out the program. The Lecturer thanked everyone for coming. She had a closing thought. Happiness is like jam. You can’t spread even a little without getting some on yourself.
Our next meeting is on January 14. We will celebrate Anniversary Night, and the Lecturer is in charge. David Cornell is in charge of refreshments.
