For the second time this season the Berlin girls basketball team took on Central Hudson Valley League rival New Lebanon, and for the second time this season the Lady Mountaineers handed the Lady Tigers a lopsided loss. On Friday Berlin was firing on all cylinders from the start, as they jumped out to an 11-2 lead. New Lebanon battled back in the second quarter, almost matching the Lady Mountaineers’ point total. At halftime Berlin led 25-14.
That close second quarter was all the Lady Mountaineers needed for motivation as they ran away in the second half, outscoring the home-standing Lady Tigers 36-11. The final score was Berlin 51, New Lebanon 25. Berlin’s tough defense did not allow a single New Lebanon player to score in double figures. BCS’s Angel Reed led all scorers with 18 points and Lindsey DePaolis scored 16 points.
The win moves Berlin to 6-0 in the CHVL and 7-2 overall. Berlin remains three games behind Germantown in the win column, as both teams are undefeated. This coming week the Lady Mountaineers take on Doane Stuart twice, once at home on Monday and once on the road on Thursday.
