To the Editor:
If you want to see men and gals at their finest watch our local firefighters tackle a major problem as they did on Sunday, December 28.
Problem – three houses each twenty feet from the other. Two new cars with gasoline in their tanks (one gallon of gas equals six sticks of dynamite). So many things to think about! The house in the center is fully involved in fire. Overhead electric service wires are burning.
The mutual aid call goes out and at least five departments respond to the call to fight this fire. With some of chiefs involved there is over a hundred years of experience when you total it up. It is like a well choreographed ballet with each person doing his job.
Folks – this is a dirty, dangerous, cold job these men do for us. From the Fire Police dodging motor vehicles, many of whom have “retired” from inside work, to the auxiliary providing nourishment to the tired men this was a superior job.
The next time you see a firefighter on the street give them a pat on the back and thank them for being there for all of us. When the afternoon was over one house was destroyed but the other two were saved, with some damage but livable. You had to be there to believe it.
God bless these men and gals and keep them safe

Chairman, Hoosick Falls Joint Fire District
