Antiques expert Tom Carpentier will identify and evaluate your old ‘stuff’ on Monday, February 2, at the Stephentown Historical Society meeting. This discovery program, “What Is It? From an Expert,” lets you bring old and unusual things for identification, commentary and evaluation. There is a limit of two items per person, no coins, stamps, or military collectibles.
An entertaining and knowledgeable speaker, Carpentier has been enchanted by unusual antiques from his teenage years in Waterbury, CT. After college and careers in radio and human services, he finally went into the antiques profession full time at age 45. He currently operates Red Barn Antiques out of the old Thomas farm in Lebanon Springs, NY. His previous shop was in Sheffield, MA. He has special expertise in textiles, folk art, jewelry, pottery, lamps and toys.
Each audience member may bring one or two items for his identification and evaluation. He encourages folks to bring the ugly, bizarre or grotesque since these items are often the rarest. You may learn some history of your object or something about its care or repair.
The meeting is at 7:30 pm at the Heritage Center on Garfield Road (County Route 26) in Stephentown. It is free and open to the public. The building is handicapped accessible. For directions, telephone 518-733-5675.
