Are you looking for something to do with your extra time that is fun, rewarding and educational? The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center will be holding a training for new volunteers on Saturday, January 31, from 9 am until 12 pm. Volunteer naturalists assist the Center in providing environmental education programs to youth in a variety of venues including school groups, youth groups and off-site programs at community centers and community events. Volunteer hours are flexible and can include weekends and evening work. Volunteers can choose from two trainings: naturalist or recreation leader. Volunteer naturalists are trained to teach specific youth programs that are about 1 to 2 hours in length. Recreation leaders are trained to lead youth groups in the outdoors on hikes, including snowshoeing. Pre-registration is required for the training and can be done by calling the Center at 658-2055 or email at dykenpond@fairpoint.net. Please contact Lisa Hoyt, Director for more information.
Dyken Pond Center is a Rensselaer County Park open daily during daylight hours for hiking, snowshoeing, cross- country skiing, nature watching and ice fishing. Call 658-2055 for directions and a complete schedule of our winter events.
