Bovie Hill Windmill Takes Another Step

February 20, 2009 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

Francis Knapp of Bovie Hill Road was the only person to appear before the Town of Hoosick Planning Board at its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 17. Knapp brought more information on the windmill he would like to build on Knapp Way, off of Bovie Hill.

Acting Chairman for the meeting, Carol Folgert, read aloud the lengthy questionnaire Knapp completed on the project. He also submitted a survey map indicating the location of the windmill and photographs of balloon tests showing the visibility of the windmill from various parts of Town. The windmill will be about 100 feet tall and the blades will total 15 feet in diameter. It is expected to generate 15 Kw of electricity. Board members suggested there be a fence around it even though it will be on posted private property.

Planning Board Attorney Dennis King will check to see if Rensselaer County or New York State require permits for a windmill, and Knapp will check with the Town Assessor to see if the two acre site of the windmill is in an agriculture district or not. He will also provide the Board with a fall line delineation on the map he submitted. All the needed information will be presented at the Board’s March 16 meeting.
