Gladys M. Jones

Berlin – Gladys M. Harrington Jones, 80, of Greene Hollow Road, Berlin, NY, died on Monday, February 23, 2009, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY, under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.

 

Born in Hoosick Falls on November 17, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Emma Shortsleeve Harrington. She was the devoted wife and best friend of the late W. Wilson Jones, who died on May 24, 2003. They were married at his home on September 26, 1987.

Living in the Berlin area most of her life, Gladys attended Berlin schools. She had worked in Faith Mills in Averill Park, NY, and in the laundry of Barnwell Nursing Home in Valatie, NY. She loved to care for her lawn.

Survivors include her children George and wife Mildred Roberts of Petersburgh, NY, Susan and husband John Blowers of Tamarac, NY, Betty and husband Walter Doty and Dawn Roberts and Alfred Gates, all of Berlin, a daughter-in-law, Tonia Roberts of Niverville, siblings Mabel and husband Lloyd Burdick of Berlin, Violet Richter of Bennington, VT, Pearl Goodpaster of Texas, a niece, a nephew and dear friends Eva and Harold Jones. Gladys is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. She was pre-deceased by three sons, Harvey, David and Robert, two grandsons, John III and Ted, a great-granddaughter, Marleigh, three sisters, Mae, Grace and Mary, and a brother, Edgar.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, at 2 pm at the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, where Rev. Trygve Tomlinson will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home for visitation starting at noon on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY, 12144.
