Looking for ways to a better relationship with your adolescent? Need ideas about how to improve communication and resolve conflicts? Want something that involves young people and teaches them skills too? Come to Strengthening Families.
Strengthening Families is a seven session program that has three different components. The first hour young people, ages 10 to 14, and their parents or guardians meet separately to learn skills through activities, videos and discussions. In the second hour, families come together to do an activity and practice a new skill. Adolescent topics range from having goals and dreams, to appreciating parents or guardians, to following rules, to handling peer pressure. Caregiver topics range from using love and limits, to making house rules, to using consequences.
The seven sessions are from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, February 25, March 4, March 11, March 18, March 25, April 1 and April 8 at the Hoosick Falls Central School. Childcare for children under ten will be provided. Dinner will be provided for the first and last sessions. Refreshments will be available for the remaining sessions.
Strengthening Families is free to participants. A prize will be drawn each week for one lucky family in attendance. Limited space is available so sign up today! Call Maryann Strauss at 686-7321 (ext. 1095) or Alicia Backus at 686-7321 (ext. 1131) to register.
Special thanks to the Hoosick Area Partnership for Parents and Youth (HAPPY) for their generosity in providing food and materials.
