Each year the Berlin wrestling team travels across the border to Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown, MA, to compete in the Mt. Greylock Invitational wrestling tournament. The tournament brings teams from New York, Massachusetts, Vermont and Rhode Island together to compete.
In the 152 pound weight class, Max Fischer won a major decision by score of 9-1 in the second round of the consolation bracket after falling in his first match. Unfortunately, he would lose by decision in the quarterfinals as well. RJ Hebert was the Mountaineers’ top wrestler on the day. After a bye in the first round of the 112 pound bracket, Hebert pinned his Southwick High School opponent in just 1:31 to move on to the semifinals. In the semis it took Hebert a little longer, but he still managed to record the win via pin in 3:31. The finals would be a different story though, as Hebert ran into the top seed, Matt Walsh of Carver. Walsh used just :57 seconds of the first period to pin Hebert and take the championship. Hebert’s second place finish is the top finish for Berlin this year.
