Stephentown – Helen Olga Aubrey Cogan, 99, died on February 4, 2009, at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, MA.
Born in November of 1909 in Calcutta, India, she began her education there before being sent back to England after World War I to complete school. She worked in London as a secretary for many years. In 1932 she sailed to the Philippine Islands to marry Edwin Osgood Cogan. Mrs. Cogan lived there until 1945, the last three years spent in the Japanese concentration camp at Santo Tomas in Manila.
After World War II she settled with her husband in Chicago where he continued to work for International Harvester. She became an American citizen in 1950. In 1968 she retired with her husband to his family’s
farm in Stephentown, NY. Edwin died in 1983, and Helen stayed on at the farm until she moved to the Danforth Assisted Living Home in Hoosick Falls, NY.
She is survived by her daughter, Isabel and son-in-law Neil Krebs, Ph.D., P.E., who maintain the family farm in Stephentown, her grandson and his wife, John and Amy Krebs, and two great-grandchildren, Sarina and Jacob Krebs.
A Memorial Service for Helen will be held on Saturday, March 7, at noon in the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, officiated by Rev. Susan Schultz. The family will accept visitors at the funeral home starting at 11 am. Interment will be in the spring in the Stephentown Cemetery.
