Margaret Whittet

Hoosick Falls – Margaret Whittet, 92, died Saturday, February 21, 2009, at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga Springs, NY. She had formerly resided at the Wood Park Apartments in Hoosick Falls, NY. Margaret was the wife of the late Alfred Whittet who died in 1978.

 

Born on November 29, 1916, in Hoosick Falls, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Dewar) Dryburgh. She graduated from Walter A. Wood High School in 1934. While in High School she played piano for the glee club, orchestra and assemblies.

Margaret was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and was an Elder, a Deacon and sang in the choir, followed by being organist for six years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Matron of local chapter and a District Deputy Grand Matron of the 2nd Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady District.

She played in the “Fabulous Four,” with Pauline McGuire, Penny Holmes and Elaine Sprunger, to entertain at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, the Danforth Home, the Kiwanis and on various occasions.

Survivors include three sons, Alfred Whittet and wife Kathy of Vero Beach, FL, James Whittet and wife Pam of Norwood, NY, and Robert Whittet and wife Candy of Columbia, MO, six grandchildren, Renee, DeeAnn, Andrew, Christopher, Cinda and Kelsey, and four great-grandchildren, Ainsley, Adam, Alex and Gavin. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Margaret is pre-deceased by a brother, Robert Dryburgh.

Funeral services were Wednesday, February 25, at 2 pm from the First United Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial followed the service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends called at the Church from 12 to 1:30 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Church Presbyterian or the Community Hospice of Saratoga through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, who are handling the arrangements.
