MentorWorks Kicks Off With Mardi Gras Theme Gathering

February 20, 2009 By eastwickpress

Mentors and mentees gathered at the Hoosick Falls Youth Center on Monday evening for the first in  a series of monthly gatherings planned for MentorWorks participants. Everyone enjoyed a Mardi Gras-themed buffet before completing a drawing project and a scavenger hunt that allowed them to explore all the fun activity areas in the Youth Center. Along the way they collected strands of Mardi Gras beads to take home. The evening ended with cupcakes decorated in Mardi Gras colors of purple, gold and green.

This event was an opportunity for the children who have already been matched to meet their mentors and for those who have not been matched yet to spend time with the group and meet the staff. The gathering gave the mentoring pairs a chance to learn about the Youth Center and the kinds of activities they could enjoy together during their mentoring meetings. The next monthly gathering will be on March 9 at 5:30 pm at the Youth Center.

MentorWorks is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, administered by Hoosick Area Partnership for Parents & Youth. For more information on becoming a mentor or referring a child to the program, call Aelish Nealon, Program Director, at 518-686-9050.
