Mildred V. Mittnight

New Lebanon – Mildred V. “Grandma Lipstick” Mittnight, 87, formerly of Canaan Road, New Lebanon, NY, died on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, MA.

 

Born May 9, 1921, in Canaan, NY, she was the daughter of the late Valentine and Bertha Fox Grochan and the loving wife of the late Joseph H. Mittnight who died on February 6, 1987. Mildred attended Canaan schools and was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in New Lebanon. She, along with her late husband, owned and operated Mittnight’s Market (now EZ Mart) in New Lebanon until her retirement. She continued to stay involved with the property. Mildred was an icon of the community, well liked by everyone.

Survivors include three daughters, Cathy Santoli of Port Washington, LI, Jackie VanDeusen of Winter Haven, FL, and Patricia A. Metzler of New Lebanon, along with six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Linda Mittnight Beason, and a brother, John Grochan. 

A Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial was celebrated on Monday, February 9, at 11 am in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 732 US Route 20, New Lebanon. Spring interment will be in the Cemetery of the Evergreens.

Relatives and friends were invited to the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, NY, on Sunday from 3 to 6 pm for visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires, 877 South Street, Suite 4 E, Pittsfield, MA, 01201.
