February 20, 2009 By eastwickpress

The Petersburgh Sunshine Seniors is pleased to announce its 2009 summer vacation, eight day trip to the Great Plains. The cost of the trip is $1680.72. This includes airfare, hotels, 11 meals and the guided tour. Travel insurance for the tour itself is available for an additional $100. The only extra cost should be airline baggage fees, $15 for the airport shuttle fee and the cost of any additional meals.

The first day will be spent flying from Albany to Rapid City, South Dakota. The second day’s sights include the Mt. Rushmore National Monument, Crazy Horse Memorial, the Indian Museum of North America and a ride through the Black Hills. There will also be free time in Rapid City to rest or explore the historic district. Here the Presidential Walk has life-sized statues of American Presidents.

The next day the tour will go to the Little Big Horn and Billings, Montana. The destination on day four is Cody, Wyoming. Sights here will be the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, the Plains Indian Museum and the Whitney Gallery of Western Art. From there the tour will cross the Continental Divide and enter Yellowstone Park. The next two days will be spent touring the Park.

On the sixth day the tour will travel into the Grand Tetons. Here there will be an opportunity for wildlife viewing during a gentle float trip down the Snake River. From there the tour will continue to Jackson. Free time will be available to shop or sightsee. There is an Antler Arch at the entrance to the town square and the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar which has bar stools made from horse saddles.

The seventh day will be spent riding south through the Bridger-Teton National Forest and into Idaho. The tour will cross the route of the original Oregon Trail, stop at Bear Lake and go through the Logan Canyon to Salt Lake City, Utah. Here there will be a tour of the Morgan Temple Square and a likely trip to the Mormon Tabernacle. The following day will be the flight back home.

Seats are limited and will be filled on a first come first serve basis to members of the Petersburgh Sunshine Seniors, then to other area seniors and lastly to non-senior Town residents. A deposit of $50 for the airline is due by March 2. This will be refunded after travel is complete. A tour down payment of $299 ($399 if you buy tour travel insurance) will be due by March 14. Please contact Mary Lou Walters at 658-0136 to sign up, and send deposits to Petersburgh Sunshine Seniors c/o Mary Lou Walters, 18 Old Orchard Way, Petersburgh, NY, 12138.
