Rough Patch For Panther Bowlers

February 6, 2009 By eastwickpress

HF 1                      Granville 3

On Friday, January 30, the Hoosick Falls bowling team suffered a tough loss to Granville by the score of 3-1 at the Granville Lanes.  The pin totals were Granville 3,077 to Hoosick Falls’ 2,962.  Hoosick Falls struggled all match trying to adapt to the difficult lane conditions but put up a good effort.  Because of the loss, Hoosick Falls finishes with a record of 49-7 which is one half of a point behind Schuylerville in the final Southern Division standings. This means that Schuylerville will go against Fort Edward for the Adirondack League title.

Top bowler for Granville was Derek Holmes with a 225-563 and top bowlers for  Hoosick Falls were  Jake Colliano 226-535, Corey Callahan 183-516, Danielle Pelletier 170-461, Joey Wolfrum 168-458 and Chris Pelletier 178 and 199.

There were some good JV scores:  Mikaela Marbot 219-604, Bryan Callahan 256-581, Logan Brogue 222-570 and Josh Conn 180-533.  The team will bowl at the League Tournament on Tuesday, February 3, in Fort Edward starting at 2 pm and at the Section II C-D Tournament on Friday, February 6, in Schenectady.

“This was a tough loss for the team which has been bowling great the past three weeks.  It goes to show that you never know what lane conditions you are going to get when you bowl on away lanes.  We need to work hard and learn how to make the necessary adjustments when we encounter these kind of lane conditions.  I was very proud of the team and how they handled this tough defeat.  Hopefully, we can come back and bowl well next week at our two tournaments,”  said Coach Lang.

Broadway Lanes in Fort Edward.  Schuylerville was first with total pins of 2,881, Hoosick Falls was second with total pins of 2,803 and Granville was third with total pins of 2,621 out of eleven teams in the league.  After starting off with a total of 891 in the first game for five bowlers, Hoosick Falls came back with a 973 in the second game and a 939 in the third game.  Joey Wolfrum of Hoosick Falls had the high triple of the tournament with a 615, and Corey Callahan had a nice 245 game to lead Hoosick Falls.

The Hoosick Falls team had the following scores:  Joey Wolfrum 230-615, Corey Callahan 245-599, Jake Colliano 186-535, Chris Pelletier 188-531 and Danielle Pelletier 194-523.  Justin Carter and Mitchell Andrew were part of the team but did not participate.  The team will finish their season with the Section II C-D tournament on Friday at Boulevard Bowl in Schenectady.

“The team had a good day with some good scores on tight lanes.  The scoring was low for all the teams in the tournament.  We just came up a little short to capture the first place trophy.  I hope we are saving our best effort for Sectionals on Friday!”  Coach Lang said.
