Hoosick Falls – William E. Wendel, 79, died on Sunday, February 1, 2009, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, in Bennington, VT. He had formerly resided on Wilson Hill Road in Hoosick Falls, NY, with his wife Rita.
William was born December 21, 1929, in Brooklyn, NY. He was the son of the former William C. and Charlotte (Dezendorf) Wendel. He graduated from High School in Brooklyn and retired from the Verizon Phone Company in 1985. He enjoyed woodworking, flying remote control airplanes and, especially, his German shepherd dogs.
Survivors other than his wife Rita include two sons, William J. Wendell of Albany, NY, and Edwin M. Wendell and his wife Rose of Bennington, a grandson, Duane Knapp, and a great-grandson, Corbin Knapp, both of Bennington, and a cousin, Edwin B. Dezendorf of Hoosick Falls.
Services were Wednesday, February 3, at 8 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 pm until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
