The winter sports awards were held this past week for Berlin High School’s athletic teams. Volleyball coach Paul Slaver started out with his boys team, recognizing the hard work they had put in this year. Coach Slaver gave his Most Improved Player award to Nick Hillis and his Most Valuable Player Award to Zeb Ferguson.

Berlin athletes were lucky enough to be able to combine with New Lebanon once again this year for the swim team. The MIP award went to Tony Hindes. Tony competed in swimming for the first time this year but improved so drastically that he only missed competing in Sectionals by under one second. The MVP award went to Rachel Ferris, who was named to the All-Berkshire Swim team.

Cheerleading Coach Kelley Greene recognized her hard working cheerleaders and gave her MIP to Melissa Dawes. The MVP went to Catherine Thomas, a senior Captain. Wrestling Coach Rick Ingraham was pleased with the success of his team this year, having two wrestlers advance to the state qualifier meet at the Glens Falls Civic Center. His Most Improved Wrestler award went to Tim Chaudoin, one of the wrestlers who made it to the GFCC. The other wrestler, Max Fischer, was given the Most Valuable Wrestler award after a completing a 26-6 season.

Coach Berschwinger coached her girls varsity basketball team to the sectional quarterfinals this season and had two players named to CHVL All-Star teams. Angel Reed was Second Team All-Star and Lindsey DePaolis was First Team All-Star. The MIP Award went to Deanna Nash, and the MVP award went to Lindsey DePaolis.

The boys varsity basketball team also played in the sectional quarterfinals this year and had an exciting year. The MIP award went to Fred Morine, who went from playing his first organized basketball game at the beginning of the year to the first guy off the bench by the end of the year. League Co-MVP and 1,000 point scorer Chris Zema was named MVP. Coach Al Webster also presented Zema with a plaque honoring him for his 1,000th point and announced that the basketball from that game would be placed in the trophy case.
