Cadette Girl Scout Troop 1120 of Stephentown learned how fashion merchandising works in a behind the scenes visit to Macy’s at the Colonie Mall. The girls discussed fashion trends, marketing tactics and retail/fashion careers with Bill Basil, Manager, Isabella Matter, Assistant Manager, and Tracy Cerecia, Merchandise Team Leader, to fulfill part of the requirement for a fashion design badge they are earning. The Macy’s team was generous with their time and their expertise as the troop learned how fashions evolve and how retailers organize their stores to appeal to shoppers in every age group. Troop members have also designed and made their own clothes and embellished clothing for charity as part of the badge requirements. The girls have dedicated this year to completing the basic requirements necessary to earn the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest honor available to Cadette girl scouts.
