On Monday eleven full time employees were laid off from Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics factory in Hoosick Falls. According to Saint-Gobain’s William Seiberlich, the employees will receive severance and outplacement services have been arranged. The employees, on average, had about 12 years service with the company. Three employees were laid off January 31. Seiberlich said he doesn’t expect any more layoffs at this time.
The Hoosick Falls operation, which manufactures pressure sensitive adhesive tapes, currently has 160 employees.
Worldwide Saint-Gobain has more than 1,000 manufacturing plants and 207,000 employees. Seiberlich said, “Many of our businesses have been affected by the worldwide economic downturn, and there have been some layoffs at other facilities.” He said the company is cautiously optimistic but, like everyone else, isn’t sure when the worldwide economy will recover.
