Wednesday, April 9, 1851: Today when I was in Pittsfield I paid up and took a note of one hundred and thirty three dollars that F. Jay Wylie held against me, given May 29 1849 and an endorsement and paid 40 dollars Nov 22 1849, and paid April 8th 1850 95 dollars and paid 25 dollars March 1st 1851 and today I paid compound interest and paid 7 percent and paid 54 dol and 97 cents. Today I sold nearly one bushel grafted apples to a grocery for 87 cents and took two pounds coffee at 14 cts per and the remainder in sugar at eight cents per and then I returned home by sunset.
Thursday: Today I sent by Geo P. and took up Eliza Furner’s interest and principal 450 dollars paid.
Friday: Today I took up Eliza and Jane Wylie’s notes of 126 dollars, in paying Eliza and Jane Wylie’s notes I paid principal and interest which was one hundred and thirty two dollars all reckoned at six percent agreed on today.
Saturday: This forenoon furrowed Geo P. potatoes ground on W.B. Maxon’s land and Edwin rode horse. This afternoon John F. and Edwin planted potatoes a spell and finished planting John F. potatoes on the widow Wylie’s. This afternoon John F. went to Samuel Beers and stayed tonight, he went to see about getting his school money. He walked and went by the way of Jesse Egleston’s and I sent the money and took up a fifty dollar note given April 18th 1850, paid interest and principal 53 dol 45 cts.
Sunday: Geo P. and his two sisters went to Elder Sweet’s meeting at the Baptist Church, John F. returned home tonight.
Monday: Today I took my one horse wagon and rode to Lebanon. I called to B. Nichols post office and left a letter directed to Arch Bishop, Granville, the agent of Washington Co. Mutual Insurance Company, I handed N. Nichols two dollars and he sealed it in said letter and mailed said letter. I then rode to the Shakers and called to Jonathan Woods office and paid one dollar for one pound carrot seed and one paper watermellon, sixpence and one paper muskmelon, six cents, and I called to the North family of Shakers and paid one dollar and fifty cents for one pound and a half of carrot seed and I paid 18 cents for two quarts of marafat peas and Geo P. sent by me and I bought him twenty one pounds clover seed and paid ten cents per and the Shaker sent John F. two apricot peach trees to make him good for the trees he bought of them last spring and they died. On the way home I called to Gays and son and got a pot lead color paint. This afternoon I set out seed turnips.
