Five seniors from the Berlin boys basketball team competed in the Central Hudson Valley League Exceptional Senior game on Wednesday night. The dark team, wearing away uniforms, were the Mountaineers with two players from Loudonville. They took on the light team wearing home uniforms. The light team consisted of players from Heatly and Waterford.

The light team took an early lead, outscoring the dark team 16-8 in the first quarter. The dark team never gave up as they brought the game back to 26-19 at the end of the first half with the help of Brent Demick’s buzzer beating shot as time expired in the end of the second quarter. In the second half, the dark team came back, finally tying the score at 30-30 with a three-pointer from Loudonville’s Jared Rebeor. After that the light team could not pull away from the dark team. Entering the final eight minutes, the light team led only 37-34.
The dark team wanted it more in the final quarter though as Fred Morine scored 7 of his 10 points in the quarter and the team held off a last minute surge by the home team. The final score was 52-48. Brent Demick led all scorers with 13 points. Morine added 10, and Eric Remington added 9 for the Berlin players. Mark Smith and Jared Rebeor for Loudonville each added 10. On the other side, Heatly’s LaShon Pringle added 11 points, and Waterford’s Al Hancox scored 10 points.
