Stephentown Marks 225th With Celebration At Elementary School

March 20, 2009 By eastwickpress

A Charter Day celebration marking the 225th anniversary of the official beginning of Stephentown, will be held at Stephentown Elementary School on Sunday, March 29, at 2 pm, hosted by the Stephentown Historical Society and the students at Stephentown Elementary School.  The Town of Stephentown was established in 1784 by an Act of the New York State Legislature.

The ceremony will include presentation and retirement of the flag by the Girl Scout and Boy Scout Troops of the Town.  The second and third grade classes will perform a costumed skit depicting the official recognition of the Town by New York State.  A short pictorial history of the Town will be shown in a Power Point presentation created by Lorri Parisi and Patricia Flint.

Historical Society members will serve light refreshments made from 18th and 19th century recipes. 225th Anniversary T-shirts will make their sales debut.  The Historical Society will also be selling sets of notecards depicting three historic Town buildings, Vanderbilt House ornaments and other items.  Members of the Town, County and State government have been invited.
