In an attempt to educate, expose and connect youth with their physical environment through outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, canoeing, camping and environmental stewardship, HFCS is holding an outdoor Expo on Friday, March 13.
Guest speakers who will visit classrooms from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm are Brian Conzeri – DEC Police Officer; Steve Hinchliffe – Outdoor Enthusiast, Owner of Outdoor Clothing Store, Nature’s Closet in Bennington, VT; Sarah Longacker – Environmental Educator, DEC, and Don Lehman – Outdoor Writer, Post Star Newspaper.
The featured speaker will be Ward Stone, New York State Wildlife Pathologist, who will speak from 6 to 6:45 pm in High School auditorium.
Exhibits and Displays from 6:45 to 10 pm are a Mammalian and Ichthyologic Display – with mounts of whitetail deer, bobcats, fisher, pike, muskellunge, trout and other mammals and fish harvested by Hoosick Falls School District residents in the high school gymnasium; DEC Police Exhibit – Wildlife game laws and regulations along with policing tactics and oversight; Local Sportsman Group Exhibits – Including displays from the Pioneer Fish and Game Club, Mid-Hudson Valley Fur Harvesters Association, Rensselaer County Conservation Alliance which will include Hunter Education information; Local Outdoor Recreational Opportunities in New York and Vermont – Topographic map display of accessible trails for hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking and hunting and fishing opportunities; Quality Deer Management – QDM display of managing whitetail deer populations; Boone and Crocket Scoring – Area B&C scorers will be reviewing proper Boone and Crocket scoring methodology and several deer antlers will be available to assess and score; Wildlife Art Exhibit – Renowned local artist Wayne Trimm will display some of his highly acclaimed wildlife art; Waterfowl Hunting Exhibit – Display of antique and modern decoys; Outdoor Gear – Steve Hinchliffe from Nature’s Closet in Bennington and Under Armour representatives will display the latest technology in outdoor gear and clothing; Taxidermy – Area taxidermist Jerry Harrington will be actively working on a whitetail deer mount throughout the evening exhibit.
