Annual S.H.A.R.E. Luncheon April 23

April 3, 2009 By eastwickpress

Seniors Helping After Retirement (S.H.A.R.E.) will host its annual luncheon on April 23 at the Troy Elks Lodge #141.  The event, which is sponsored by MVP GOLD, a Medicare advantage HMO from MVP, will begin at 11 am.  Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino will once again serve as the Master of Ceremonies.  This year’s event will feature Barbara Wyman, the Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers as the keynote speaker.

S.H.A.R.E. is a program where Rensselaer County senior citizens donate volunteer hours towards community service at one of the County’s five senior centers, their seniors clubs and in their communities.  Many of the seniors volunteer hundreds of hours each year, assisting with projects in nutrition services, receptionist duties, transportation escorts, knitting and crocheting for hospitalized children and veterans, dance and choral performances, bingo callers, decorating, and arts and crafts and a host of other worthwhile and rewarding activities.  The senior citizens will be honored for their commitment to those endeavors and for serving their communities.

Lunch choices are stuffed chicken breast or roast beef at a cost $14.50 per person. Tickets are available at all of the Rensselaer County Senior Centers: Schodack, Hoosick Falls, Grafton, Rensselaer and Troy and at the Rensselaer County Department for the Aging by calling Barbara 270-2730.  Everyone is welcome to attend, including all senior citizens, friends, relatives and supporters. Reservations are required by April 10.  Doors open at 10:30 am.

For more information on the luncheon, please call the Rensselaer County Department for the Aging at 518-270-2730.
