Berlin Junior/Senior High School’s Second Annual Battle of the Belts Preliminary Championship was held on April 8 at Berlin High School. Fifty-two Middle/ High school students participated in this event. The Middle School Team, “The Road Runners,” Matthew Rokjer, Zachary Spaniol, Travis Riccardi and Timothy Shupe, came in first place with 40.34 seconds. The High School Team, “The Purple People Eaters,” Brad Deyo, Christopher Rohlman, Rebecca Taylor and Timothy Hogan, came in first place with 38.4 seconds.
During the Battle of the Belts Preliminary Championship students were reminded about seat belt safety and safe driving practices. A group of students will be competing in the Battle of the Belts Championship at Sean’s Run which will take place at Chatham High School on Sunday April 26. Berlin Junior/ Senior SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) chapter received a $500 grant from First Niagara and Sean’s Run which has aided in completion of Berlin’s Battle of the Belts and will be used to pay for the school field trip to Sean’s Run.
