Eugene P. Burdick

Hoosick Falls – Eugene P. Burdick, 75, of First Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, died on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his loving family under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.

 

Born in Troy, NY on August 7, 1933, he was the son of the late Eugene P. and Evelyn Gibbs Burdick, Sr. and step-son of Mary M. Burdick of Poestenkill, NY. He was the loving husband of the former Eleanor G. Cary, whom he married on March 3, 1956, in St. Jude’s Church in Wynantskill, NY.

After being raised and attending schools in Grafton, NY, Mr. Burdick served in the United States Army in Ft. Benning, GA, from 1951 to 1955. Upon his honorable discharge, he worked as a handyman and mechanic most of his life. He worked for Troy-Bilt on the assembly line in Troy, NY, until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His hobby was to collect and fix old tractors, especially John Deere.

Survivors, besides his step-mother and wife, include his children, Eugene J. Burdick of Chula Vista, CA, James M. Burdick and Harold H. Burdick of Hoosick Falls, John A. Burdick of Troy, and Helen J. Blanchard of Hubert, NC, his siblings, Helen M. Rosekrans of Watervliet, NY, Peggy Keenan of Grafton, Arthur Burdick of Rochester, NY, John Burdick of Pittstown, NY, Donald Burdick, Maryann Hoffman of Poestenkill and Robert Willett, thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Charlotte Cichacki.

Family and friends are invited to a gathering to celebrate Eugene’s life on Saturday, April 18, at 1 pm at his residence in Hoosick Falls. For further information call Harold at 518-879-6074. There will be no public calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, 21 First Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robson-Reinfurt Funeral Home of Hoosick Falls.
