HACA Still Doing Taxes

April 3, 2009 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

The HACA Food Closet building was busy on Saturday as many people were having their taxes done through the VITA tax service, available again this year at the HACA Center. The free tax service is offered to low and middle income families and individuals who earn up to $40,000. Last year the volunteers filed 184 tax forms. By last Saturday they had done 167 and there are still two weeks to go!

Appointments are still available. Call 686-5310 for an appointment. The service is available on Thursdays from 6 to 9 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm. The office will be open all day Wednesday, April 15. Program coordinator Dick Hosterman said they have had “lots of nice compliments” on their service. Particularly, he said, from folks who are pleased to get to keep a copy of their return to take with them. Right now the VITA program has six volunteers. “We would like to have more,” Hosterman said.
