Hoosick Falls Greenway – A Reality

April 17, 2009 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

On April 8 NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Regional Grants Administrator Cathy Jepson walked the new Hoosick Falls Greenway with Mayor Matt Monahan, Trustee Ric DiDonato, Hoosick Town Supervisor Marilyn Douglas, former Trustee and enthusiastic Greenway supporter Margaret Casey and members of the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA). The purpose of the walk was to acquaint the new Administrator with the Greenway, renegotiate the Grant the Village has with Parks and Recreation, and show properties the Village still wishes to purchase on the route. The Village will contract with HooRWA to have them draw up a plan for the overall Greenway. Part of that plan will include discussions with DEC regarding people walking on the berm behind Nixon St. If that is not possible, then some sort of walkway through that section for the Greenway will be devised.

After more than two years the land has finally been purchased from the railroad. It looks as if the next stage may also be a slow process but will ultimately lead to a great area for recreation along the Hoosic River.

Officials from NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the Hoosic River Watershed Association, Hoosick Falls Mayor Matt Monahan, Trustee Ric DiDonato, Hoosick Supervisor Marilyn Douglas and former Trustee and Greenway supporter and enthusiast Margaret Casey walked the new Hoosick Falls Greenway on Wednesday afternoon.
