Letter To The Editor – Coffee Break?

April 24, 2009 By eastwickpress

Dear Editor:

I would like to address a serious issue that affects everyone in the area, that of which the State of NY Highway Dept. covers up when they fix our highways.

Today at 9:10 am a crew of the NY State Highway Dept. started to repair a section of road in front of the Grafton Store up to the Firehouse, and then after doing a “half rated” job they proceeded to go over to the Grafton Store parking lot at 9:30 am until 10:40 am for coffee. I feel this is a total waste of taxpayers’ money. They could have been using the time cleaning culverts out or another pressing issue if, in fact, they were going to use the excuse that they were “waiting for black top.” With the economy as it is I feel as a resident of Grafton this is outrageous behavior. We’re paying their salaries to sit around? I am disgusted by this as I’m sure many others will be, and I take pride in our State Parks, and it’s a shame the roads are such a wreck that visitors from all around see this and form an opinion of our system around here. It’s unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Sincerely,

B. Speed

State Route 2, Grafton
