Letter To The Editor – No More Tax Increases, Please!

April 24, 2009 By eastwickpress

To The Editor:

I am a frustrated and concerned taxpayer who cannot handle any more raises in my taxes. I do not believe that all taxpayers are aware of certain wastes within our school district. The Berlin School District wants to buy more suburbans and school buses. Why do we need more new buses when we just bought some last year? Also, there are buses that sit by the bus garage that are not being used! Are all runs filled to capacity, or are we making runs to keep certain people working? Times are tight, and if there has to be lay-offs, then welcome to our reality.

Other school districts, such as Hoosick Falls and Troy, are making cuts within the school so they can eliminate or lessen the tax burden on taxpayers. Our school district has less than 900 students; the schools mentioned earlier are bigger and still find the cuts – BECAUSE THEY WANT TO. Something besides raising my taxes needs to be done. I am a proud homeowner, but I do not know if I can afford to keep paying my taxes.

A concerned taxpayer,

Patricia Jones, Plank Road, Petersburgh
