Lions Penny Hunt And Egg Toss

April 24, 2009 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

Rain postponed the 49th Annual Lions Club Penny Hunt in Wood Park until Saturday, April 11. Before each group started Lions members tossed handfuls of pennies into the air. The sun reflected off the shiny copper as they fell. As well as collecting pennies each group was looking for the smiley-face penny that would win him or her a candy filled Easter basket.

Ashland Sagendorf was the lucky winner in the three year old group. Winner in the girls, age 4 to 6 group was Olivia Estes. The boy to win in that age group was Gordon Schwartz. Katie Weeden found the lucky penny in the girls age 7 to 9 group, and Noah Jopner won in the boys group.

Egg Toss

After the Penny Hunt the older youngsters, and some adults, participated in the Egg Toss.

Talk about egg on your face! Andrew Stevens should have lost, however, his sister Chelsea, on the other finalist team, dropped her egg. It took two toss-offs before Chelsea’s team won. (Bea Peterson photo)

The four finalists, including a brother and sister on opposite teams, were forced into double extra throws before the team of Chelsea Stevens and Maddy Ryan could claim victory. They each received gift certificates for their efforts.
