Mary E. Wright

Hancock – Mary E. Maynard Wright, 81, of Main Street, Hancock, MA, died on Friday evening, March 27, 2009, at North Adams Regional Hospital in North Adams, MA.

 

Born April 17, 1927, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Mina Jordan Maynard. She was the loving wife of John E. Wright, whom she married in the Hancock Baptist Church on September 12, 1948. Mary was a graduate of Berlin Central High School and valedictorian of her class. She was in the Class of ‘47 at the Henry W. Bishop Memorial School of Nursing under the United States Cadet Nurse Corps where she became a Registered Nurse. Mary worked at the House of Mercy Hospital and Pittsfield General Hospital before retiring in 1973. She enjoyed knitting and making quilts for family and the local neighbors.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John, her three sons, Timothy and wife Gail Wright of Hancock, Frederick and wife Mary Wright of Verona, NC, and John Wright of New Lebanon, NY, a brother, Robert Maynard of Maryland, a sister, Sarah Smith of Pittstown, NY, along with eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a son, Steven, along with six brothers and two sisters.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department in care of Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, P.O. Box 9, Stephentown, NY, 12168.
