Preventing Fall Related Injuries

April 17, 2009 By eastwickpress

On Friday, April 24, the Seniors’ Ministry of Immaculate Conception/St. Joseph Parish, New Lebanon, will host their regular monthly breakfast meeting and speaker. The event will take place in the Immaculate Conception Parish Hall, 732 US Route 20, in New Lebanon, beginning at 10 am.

This month’s discussion will focus on how you can prevent fall related injuries and how to survey your own home to reduce hazards that may cause you to fall. There is no charge to attend this program and all interested persons are invited to attend.

For more information, please call the Parish Office at 518-794-7651, Mon-Fri, 10 am to 2 pm.

We all know someone who has had a bad fall – please don’t let that happen to you! There are four major steps that will greatly increase your chances of avoiding falls and the life threatening injuries that can result. Knowing and practicing these recommendations will help you to develop a safer home environment and will also benefit your overall health. Please join us as Mary Linton, RN, describes the important steps that the CDC advises for everyone but especially for seniors. You will hear an explanation of a room by room safety check and receive a checklist to take with you for use at your own home.

This program is presented as a joint effort between the Immaculate Conception/St. Joseph Parish Health Ministry and the Capital District Senior Issues Forum. For more information, please call the parish office, at 518-794-7651, Mon-Fri, 10 am to 2 pm.
